How to manage DNS records for your domain

In your dashboard, open Domains, click Manage Domain, then use DNS Records Management to add, edit or delete records. These records only work while your domain uses our default nameservers.

Updated

Open the DNS editor

  1. Log in and click Domains in the dashboard menu.
  2. On My Domain Portfolio, find your domain and click Manage Domain.
  3. Scroll down to DNS Records Management. The table shows each record's Type, Name / Host, TTL and Value / Target.

Add a record

  1. Click Add DNS Record.
  2. Choose the Record Type.
  3. Choose a TTL. 1 hour is the standard choice.
  4. In Host / Name, type @ for the main domain, or a word such as www or mail. The full name shows under the box.
  5. Type the value. For an MX record, also set the MX Priority (0 to 65535).
  6. Click Save Record.

The form checks A and AAAA addresses and stops you if the format is wrong. It also warns you if you add a CNAME on @. For the main domain, use an A record instead.

Record types you can add

NS records you add do not show in the table.

The form also has Quick Presets: Point Root (@) to Sellora, Point WWW to Sellora and Default SPF (TXT). A preset fills in the form. Check the values, then click Save Record.

TypeWhat the value box asks for
ATarget IPv4 Address
AAAATarget IPv6 Address
CNAMETarget Canonical Domain Name
MXMail Server Hostname, plus MX Priority
TXTTXT Record String Content
SRVSRV Target (Weight Port Host)
CAACAA Record Value
NSNameserver Hostname

Edit or delete a record

  • To change a record, click the pencil icon on its row. Make your changes and click Update Record.
  • To remove a record, click the bin icon on its row and confirm.

If you have the free .com mailbox

When we set up the free mailbox, we add an MX record and TXT records for SPF, DMARC and DKIM. Do not delete or change them, or your email may stop working.

Your domain already has an SPF record, so do not add a second one with Default SPF (TXT). A domain should have only one SPF record.

Change nameservers

Your domain starts on our default nameservers. You can see them in the Authoritative Nameservers box.

  1. Click Change NS.
  2. Type your nameservers, one per line. You need at least 2.
  3. Click Save Nameservers.

With other nameservers, the records in DNS Records Management stop working, including the free mailbox records. Your new DNS provider must hold your records. To come back, click Restore Defaults.

Create your own nameservers

To make nameservers such as ns1.yourdomain.com, click Manage Child NS. Enter the Host Name and the Target IP Address, then click Register Host.

How long changes take

New records often work within 5 to 15 minutes. Some networks can take up to 24 hours to see a change.

To check a record, use Live DNS Propagation Tester on the same page. Enter the host (@ for the main domain), choose the type, and click Check Resolution.
